Last Sunday’s 2016 Formula 1 Emirates Japanese Grand Prix saw Nico Rosberg take the win once again, extending his lead in the driver standings now to 33 points ahead of his Mercedes team-mate, Lewis Hamilton, who in turn went home with third, just behind Max Verstappen’s Red Bull after another poor start. As a result, Mercedes has secured a third straight crown in the constructors’ championship.

Fourth and fifth went to Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen respectively as Ferrari struggled with a rather frustrating afternoon. Daniel Ricciardo in the other Red Bull finished in a disappointing sixth even though he had started ahead of the two red cars on the grid. The pair of Force Indias driven by Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg claimed seventh and eighth respectively, the duo beat their arch rivals, Williams’ Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas whom completed the top ten, surprisingly all 22 drivers finished the race!

In P1 on the grid, Rosberg had effectively won right from the get-go when Hamilton messed up his start and fell back from second to eighth. From there on out, the German maintained his position and distanced himself from the rest of the pack to take his ninth victory of the season, well ahead of second place Verstappen and a fast recovering Hamilton.

Easing away from the start, Rosberg quickly secured his first place while Verstappen leapt into second but the other Red Bull of Ricciardo failed to maintain his pace after bolting pass the fumbling Hamilton and was in turn overtaken by Force India’s Perez and a rocketing Vettel. Further down the ladder was the other Force India of Hulkenberg who was on sixth – leading Raikkonen’s Ferrari, who had a late five-place grid drop penalty for a gearbox change. Behind the Finn was Hamilton.
