Sino Group is delighted to present the inaugural Gold Coast Motor Festival, which was held during the National Day Golden Weekend (1-2 October 2016). It was also thoughtfully curated to enable the public to enjoy some of the most coveted dream cars, learn more about the latest in motor trends and innovations while enjoying a weekend with friends and family along the scenic Hong Kong Gold Coast precinct.

It is poised to be one of the signature events on the motor calendar for Hong Kong and the region. The Gold Coast Motor Festival adds to Hong Kong’s status as a leading international hub and positively contributes to Hong Kong’s tourism and attractions.’


The picturesque waterfront precinct was transformed into various dynamic lifestyle and entertainment zones, each with a different motoring experience, in partnership with leading car brands including Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Pagani, Porsche, Volkswagen and more that will be opened for public to enjoy the excitement of the festival.


Over 60 exquisite, world-class classic and collector cars were sourced from private collectors went on display. The dazzling line-up included the LaFerrari, Porsche 918, Pagani Huayra BC, McLaren F1, Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, Ferrari Daytona, Nissan R34 Z Tune, just to name a few that provided motoring aficionados with a rare and unmissable opportunity. The Festival was also generously supported by the Aston Martin Owners Club, which presented over 17 prized Aston Martin collector cars dating from the 1950s to the present day.

A tribute to craftsmanship and technological innovation
The Gold Coast Motor Festival pays tribute to classic craftsmanship as well as technological innovation of the modern day. A panel of judges led by Chief Judge, Mr Joseph Fung, a veteran motor enthusiast, will select the crème de la crème among these rare gems for the following awards: Best Competition Hero, Best Collector’s Classic, Best American Muscle, Best Alternative Speedster, Best Dream Super Car, Best Collector’s Porsche, Best Collector’s Aston Martin and Best of Show Winner.


The diverse programme featured a series of motor seminars hosted by motorsports figures, designers and automotive leaders, such as Mr Darryl O’Young, Mr Lawrence Yu and Mr Douglas Young, to name a few, to inspire and empower the next generation of car enthusiasts with information and know-how while encouraging innovation. Sino Group was also delighted to present a talk by Prof C C Chan, widely known as the ‘Father of Asian Electric Vehicles’, who will be addressing electric vehicle enthusiasts through his talk ‘Renaissance, Automobiles and Mobility’.

There were also entertainment zones and activities for families to spend an action-packed weekend, ranging from live jazz and Latino music performances to pro-racing simulator experiences, test drive zones by Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen, a retail lifestyle zone and a UBS x MakerBay Electric Vehicle Lab. For the gourmets, there will be a delightful selection of culinary offerings by Castelo Concepts, the brains behind the trendy restaurants Wagyu, Jaspas, Butcher and Baker, which features a champagne bar by Veuve Cliquot, Kids’ Candy Land, Burger Bar, Italian gastronomic delights, Asian tapas and much more.

Gold Coast Motor Festival similarly partner with renowned Japanese model car brand, Tomica, on a kids’ workshop and creative display in the Tomica Wonderland, where parents and children got to explore a motor fantasy world together. There were also fun games and activities for kids, including the ‘Kids Art Zone’ presented by Art Futures for children who may prefer an immersive creative session. For those seeking outdoor fun, hop onto the special Gold Coast children’s mini rain ride, Hong Kong’s first outdoor electric train designed for children, which will take them for an exhilarating ride by the waterfront.


To encourage sustainable development, a zone was designated as an open-source vehicle display. UBS has partnered with social enterprise MakerBay and its team of primarily student designers and engineers at its Electric Vehicle Lab (EV Lab) to build a concept electric car.

In addition to showcasing some of the most sought-after collector cars, Gold Coast Motor Festival raised funds for The Community Chest of Hong Kong, the event’s official charity partner. Donation boxes were placed around the precinct; additionally, a raffle draw with prizes amounting to over HK$350,000 gave every festival-goer a chance to win fabulous prizes, generously sponsored by partners including Avis, Bremont, Hackett London, Resto, Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Pagani, Volkswagen and Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel. In celebration of the 31st Anniversary of the Hong Kong-Beijing Rally, Hong Kong Gold Coast hosted the participants, with the rally teams setting off on the morning of 1 October 2016.

‘The timing could not have been more golden with Hong Kong welcoming more international and national tourists in the National Day Golden Week. Together with Gold Coast Boat Show held on the 1 May Golden Weekend, one of the longest-running boat shows in the region, these twin signature events are for Hong Kong people and tourists to enjoy.

Gold Coast Motor Festival was a mega event for all; there were seminars for motor aficionados to learn more about the latest in motor technology and innovations as well as fun-filled activities and entertainment for families to spend a weekend here by the sea. There is something for everyone. It is great for the motor industry, great for tourism and great for Hong Kong,’ concludes Mr Kaiwai.
